"this has to do with synchronizing your Outlook calendar
with a public calendar - when you have an entry marked as
"private", it will show up in the public calendar only as "private
entry" for the time it is set for or not at all. When you have
selected "public", it is visible. As long as you don´t do that, but
only sync between your own mobile and your own (personal) Outlook
calendar, there is no difference."
Very useful for calendar entries; if you work in a large
corporate and sync your phone to your work diary in Outlook; by
marking entries as private it will make you unavailable to your
colleagues, but without them being able to see what you are doing.
Same would apply in Google Calendar, but less people share that in
the first place. Not so sure how useful it is for contacts
though.

I sync with Ovi and all my numbers disappear - it just pulls down emails and names. Bloody thing.
Gonna try Zyb now.
