That and (maybe it is just urban myth) but aren't all 3g phones
fitted with same such that it can be activated remotely by
emergency (read security) services?
@barneyc: I've actually
seen some of those grazing at the base of some spaghetti trees in
the hills of Italy so you may have a point. Fisticuffs averted.
Boy is watching too much CSI. Where all phones (including
piece-of-s**t Motorolas and such) naturally have GPS chips and can
be located within an inch (who cares if that is or isn't
technologically possible, right?! Conspiracy FTW). And DNA tests
take 10 seconds. I could go on...but clearly the moon IS made of
cheese. Doh!
@WaveyDavey001: the
cheese from those cows tastes extra special as they munch on pesto
grass. Yum.
@bvlad @whatleydude I have a feeling it
not as much CSI/X-Files as you might think but I'd love to hear
from someone in the handset manufacturers that can prove otherwise
- honestly I would.

Are you sure he's 100% wrong? There are a large number of phones out there with gps chipsets that aren't activated in the firmware.

@whatleydude: Bad example. Have you ever seen a Dairylea mine? Of course cheese comes from the moon stupid.

Certainly my HTC TYTN had an inactive chipset cause the firmware got hacked and low and behold the gps (which was never in the specs) started working

It's the same cows that have left legs shorter than the right so they can stand up straight on hills whilst grazing
