I've ranted on that a lot. It's about the phw platform they're
using for the N96, it's not a sw thing. The current Nseries all use
TI's OMAP which has an integrated graphics chip. The N96's STMicro
sourced chip doesn't. Supposedly STM is cheaper. Can't confirm that
though.
But seriously speaking, gaming is the last priority for me.
Although I do hate it when some feature just goes missing (and
Nokia are masters at this).
if you can name more than 3 games that take advantage of the
hardware acceleration chip then i'll shut my mouth, but seriously,
no chip inside is not what will push people to ignore the n96. the
monstrosity of the device is what will push people away from the
n96.
@overpills: Yeah but
you have to take into account that the culture has a lot to do with
content consumption methods. And Japan is ahead in all things
mobile, but would they have been if they had 8-hour workdays
(fixed) or less reliable public transportation?
Gaming is a low priority for me also.. But still. For a handset
that is supposed to be a 'successor' you would naturally assume
that it would be able to match it's predecessor... And then
some!
Oh and for the record - I happen to LOVE Global Race. Awesome
game.
I don't consider the N96 the successor the N95. I don't even
consider it a flagship device. It doesn't come with the standard
VOIP package the N95 came with. Truphone will not be able to run on
it in the form it's in now. Truphone is working on a work around
but Nokia yanked some of the VOIP software (just like they did on
the N78). Hmmm I wonder who's putting pressure on Nokia....
I just had the same price comment as @bvlad from one of the guys in the
office, although we thought it was a 3d hardware rather than
generic gfx. Hope it doesn't hurt video playback performance much.
@danlane it looks TOO bad to
be just optimisation rather than missing hardware. That said, not
bothered about games.

It was supposed to be "hw platform", not phw.

Can you tell @danlane that - (that was him moaning in the background)

@constantine: Lol. I don't think it's monstruos, just don't really see any reason to upgrade from the N95. You know, evolution not revolution...

agree with Stefan, and the fact it doesn't do anything more significantly than most of the N series currently out. And don't mentioned DVB

IS there anyone who doesn't think mobile TV is a joke?

we have DVB-H here in Finland, but no MTV = fail.

Does it affect QIK / other graphics performance other than games?

I personally like the n96 but like most have said, its more me a niche device than anything for most users

@bensmithuk - I didn't get a chance to download/try Qik. Took me long enough to get Global Race installed.. Bloody pre-release firmware.. Grr.
