@dka - that presentation clarified a lot of the stuff we touched upon in the pub the other night. You're right, it's not the destination (be it .mobi or m. or whatever) it's the what it looks like when you get there.. Best Practices etc.
maybe a question to take offline - but how can I get involved?
Interesting how the industry are arguing over the best thing for the mobile web etc (see earlier on in this thread) and Mippin forgets about what the industry wants.. And actually does what the user wants..
Internet Information for the user, while they are mobile.. Quick and simple. Forget compressing, re-sizing etc.. Just give me the info!
Dont forget the real security issues behind this 'cool' LBS stuff.. Your phone is a PERSONAL device.. It knows a lot about you.. But do not forget how open this is to abuse..
Finding the whole day pretty disappointing so far. A few useful nuggets but in general it feels like an extended MoMo day. Also, it's not really 'Future of mobile', it's more 'how to develop for mobile'
next up - Brian Fling of Blue Flavour on 'How the iphone will change the mobile space'
Before he starts - when I first saw this topic on the schedule I thought it was a bit of misnomer.. The iphone already has changed the mobile space/landscape... So.. Let's see what he has to say! :)
@pashazade - fair point dude... Were you expecting more of a futurist think tank?
obviously the 'future of...' brand is part of Carsonified's IP.. But yeah, maybe a more in depth description would be better beforehand.. 50 percent of this stuff is flying over my head as im not a developer..
I totally agree with pashazade, i was expecting to be wowed about the future of my industry. I wanted to go away with wicked ideas. So far I've learnt a bit about current standards for mobile web development. Where's the 'future thinking' :(
@whatleydude - no :) but I was expecting more stuff that was genuinly new and forward thinking. It feels like it's a 'mobile for web developers' conference
The iphone is shifting consumer perceptions of what mobile technology can do...
..for the record - @prashant said this exact same thing to me when we first met at the beginning of this year - "if the iphone only achieves one thing, it will be user education.."
Have a good evening guys, I'm actually buggering off after this presentation, due to my house going on the market since last night and a first potential buyer visiting tonight. :) Keep reporting so I can read about the last few presentations when I get home!
Maybe it's just this dude speaking... Times like these I look forward to the day I speak at my first conference... (and yes, that is on my list of short term goals)
@edc088 - you're not sticking around for beers later?
left on the schedule we have Julie Strawson, Matt Millar and then our last panel discussion...
@wd - been offered some very well paid work for the night which really cant afford to turn down! Seems very strange discussing on here considering you are just sat on my right...
questions echo presentation from Opera last week at w3c technical plenary about downloadable web fonts and the availability of open source non-licensed fonts. The support is in Opera and Webkit.
well, so far the Adobe guy has just critiqued the current mobile web... Maybe he's about to mention the future... Can we hear about something other than the mobile web now? Everyone seems to have forgotten that the NUMBER ONE USE FOR A MOBILE PHONE IS VOICE!
Lol - for the second time today 'Helen Keegan' (@technokitten) appears on the IMAX screen.. Both times via a facebook example.. First by Dan Appelquist and now by Matt Millar.. Hahaha...
he has a point about metro, if I'm on the train and I want to read news i'll read metro instead of using my phone... But I can't jaiku from Metro (or London Lite)
conferences like this could do with some new blood. Also with 2 tracks like FOWA, one for hardcore coders and one for business dev, advertising, community peeps. Also less linear plan ie. forum on social networks while a heavy tech panel goes on in another room...
Panel Discussion Time: Marek Pawlowski, Tom Hume and Barbara Ballard...
Tom Hume's the main draw here.. However, may de-camp early as my head really hurts.. Staring at IMAX sized powerpoint presentations REALLY screws with your eyes..
Thats one vote from Vero (i think) - right.. Next stop, my own event.. Oop no.. Got that covered with Mobile Geeks of London.. Ok.. So what now?
Hang on
not sure the MGoL would appreciate suddenly having speakers... Hmm.. Maybe i should start hawking my wares in the new year.. Hehehe
Yep - thanks all for these infroming comments since I also could not attend - it was almost like being there...(Martin Smith - not of blognation mind - the other one)
well, I was honestly disappointed by this conference. I know that "Future of..." is the Carsonified brand but the name should have been "The Mobile Web Today"... Probably the only foward thinking thing I heard was the Google stuff. Thank to @aksyn,@edw4rd, @whatleydude and the other mobile geeks for making it an enjoyable social event. Having attended FOWA I know that carsonified can do better. (disclaimer: I arrived late so missed the first few talks)

Surprise Surprise -2nd slide..
"VodafoneUK and Novarre are breaking the mobile web!"
To be fair to Luca, he has put it underneath Device Fragmentation!
2 years ago by whatleydude
no surprise that Luca raises the Novarra issue by his 2nd slide. While he does have a point, he's a shit stirrer...

The Mobile Web browser is the nest killer app

Panel Discussion Time: Marek Pawlowski, Tom Hume and Barbara Ballard...
Tom Hume's the main draw here.. However, may de-camp early as my head really hurts.. Staring at IMAX sized powerpoint presentations REALLY screws with your eyes..

@thatcanadiangirl - agreed, agreed and agreed. Quite a disappointing conference overall. The Jaiku chat was the most entertaining part :)

well, I was honestly disappointed by this conference.
